WINTER 1994-95 /ADAR 1  5755                                                                                                    Volume 7

NOW ...

During the last week of December 1993, Sam & I ate our way through Florida with relatives who either spend the winter or have taken up residence there. TO ONE & ALL, IT WAS WONDERFUL & WE THANK YOU!

We dinnered in Miami with my mother's widowed sister-in-law Mae Weinberg, & her children Jerry & Joyce Weisman, Sandy Weinberg Fixler & her fiance’ Joe Pinsker, grandchildren Chris & Lisa Weisman Abrams, Jeremy & Brian Fixler.  The great-grandchildren Alexa & Sam Abrams were asleep, unfortunately.

Joan M. Leskovity & Donald Myers

The next day we had a delightful lunch with Joan Myers Leskovitz & her son Donald in North Miami Beach.

On the weekend we were hosted by Fred & Norma Kohen Friedman in Boca Raton.  The had a mini-reunion for us & Anita Hilton Nobio, Al & Pearl Katz Blumenthal, Jerry & Woyce Weinberg Weisman.  Others had been invited but were unable to attend.  We studied the family trees I brought.  & the food was great, too!

On Monday we started our whirlwind visit on the western side of Florida.  Crossing Alligator Alley heading for Naples, we lunched with Youngstowners Sid & Lois Friedman Davidow & their children Charles & Terry Epstein & granddaughters Mimi & Pam.  They told me about a diary that Lois’ mother Flora Klein Friedman had written about 1916 during a visit to her cousins in Little Rock, cousin Birdie Katzenstein in Shreveport, & finally with cousin Lorynne Samuels Rose in Youngstown, where she met her future husband Martin Friedman.

By Monday evening we were in Sarasota, where we met Milwaukee-ites David & Jean Saltzstein Herman & their children, Bostonian, Tom, & Mainers Angus King & Mary Herman & their son Benjamin Herman.  If Angus’ name sounds familiar, yes, he is the new governor of Maine.

Alan, Mimi Loeb, Joan Rimmon, Amy, Jane Levine & Milton Loeb

After dinner, Jean, Sam & I invaded the snowbird residence of Little Rockans Milton & Mimi Back Loeb & their visiting family Mark, Alan, & Scott & Jane Levine & their daughter Amy.

The next day we visited some of my father’s relatives in Tampa, but on Wednesday morning we breakfasted with Steven & Merrill Marx & their children Jeffery & Emily.  Steven is a consultant for the communications industry (radio & TV),  so we were happy to reciprocate their hospitality when he came to LA on business.

We lunched with Ira & Helene Strousse Ross in their 9th floor-view-of-the-Gulf & Bay condo on Treasure Island.  Helene has the original photographs of  her great-grandparents Joseph & Rose Weinberg.

We dinnered in Orlando with Roz  Saffer Haas, who had recently relocated from TN.  Her sons, Gregg & Michael are in the baseball card business in Orlando, & son Larry is attending the university in Jacksonville.

Our last meal in Florida was a delightful breakfast in Lake Worth with Morty & Ruth Berkman.
