November 2001/Kislev 5762                                                                            Volume 14

Last year was an interesting year, the Olympics from Sydney, Australia, the US Presidential elections, and with all the excitement some very important family events were omitted from these pages. That is corrected below.
Many of you have written how much you enjoy the pages from history, and of the many memories brought back. I will try to find more this year.
If anyone's child needs help with a school project regarding the family tree, you know whom to call.
This website is just one of many that the members of our family have started. The ones I know about are listed below.

        FAMILY WEBSITES TO VISIT:

http://www.jimmy@cohrssen.com/ Jimmy Cohrssen, photographer.
    http://www.operaforeveryone.com
Ira Ross, it's self-explanatory.
http://www.newday.com/films/Nana_Mom_and_Me.html   Amalie Rothschild's site about a film she produced.
http://spigel.com  is the Adam Spigel website, where he has a wonderful picture album.

www.annapolis-real-estate.com and www.montgomerycollege.com  Tom Rose, see what's happening in Annapolis.

CORRECTIONS FROM LAST ISSUE     It is Joshua Kahn at University of Washington, not Tobey. But Tobey is still a great archery champion and training for some future Olympics.

An appeal from some cousins who live in Israel and a request: "WE ARE A SMALL PART OF OUR GREAT FAMILY WHO IS LIVING IN ISRAEL AND WE ARE VERY PROUD OF IT.
WE DO INVITE OUR FAMILY MEMBERS TO COME FOR VISITS AND HOLIDAYS HERE, IN ISRAEL, AND WHEN YOU ARE HERE SAY HELLO TO US! OUR FAMILY CONNECTIONS ARE: MY MOTHER-BEATRICE -BEATE MANN (DEUTCHER), MY 2 UNCLES: ALBERT ASKENAZY AND ERNEST DEAN.
WE ARE NOW, STILL,IN A PROCESS OF CLAIMING RESTITUTION FOR VARIOUS LOSSES OF OUR FAMILY. WE WOULD BE GREATFUL, IF ANY FAMILY MEMBER COULD ASSIST US IN GIVING US INFORMATION WHICH WOULD HELP US TO DO SO SUCCESFULY. WE WISH TO KNOW: IF THERE ARE PEOPLE, IN THE FAMILY, WHICH HAVE SIMILAR EXPERIENCES IN PLACING RESTITUTION CLAIMS FOR VARIOUS LOOSES AGAINST GERMANY ALSO IF THERE IS GOOD EXPERIENCE AND SUCCESS WITH A GOOD ATTORNEY OR LEGAL ASSISTANCE? WE WILL BE THANKFUL FOR ANY GOOD ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE."

   LIFE EVENTS & TRAVELS
Frances Langsdorf Greenebaum had the whole family up to Scarsdale for Thanksgiving, including great-grandchildren. Gisela Zamora joined them. Fran said, "It was wonderful to have them all together." Ann Silverman visited Fran in December. Guess they didn't get to meet the "new ex-D.C. neighbors" then.

Dr. Bert Roberts spent some time in Africa helping the sick. He's known for doing random acts of kindness like that.
Margery Netter Patterson has fallen in love with "Elderhostel" and went to Las Vegas in January.
Beth Bachenheimer, daughter of a "survivor" and Holocaust artist has donated her painting "Jude vs Nazi" to the Los Angeles Holocaust Museum. Her work is now part of their permanent collection, and was mentioned at the Kristalnacht event at UCLA in the Los Angeles Times.

Joe & Margot Kohen sailed January 22 aboard the Crystal Symphony on its World Cruise. They're going to some fantastic ports.
Benita Fair Langsdorf, [Michael's lovely other half] an attorney, has been named as a house counsel for Independence Blue Cross of Philadelphia, and was recently elected President of the Philadelphia Chapter of HIAS.
Ari David Langsdorf  is a senior at Penn State this year, and is majoring in business.
Andrew and Jean Steinberg Balcombe were visiting family in Israel in December, NY and Florida in February.
JJ and Monica Gordon spent six grueling weeks "touring" in India and Sri Lanka. They got home just before the big shaker. His stories about the trip and their new life in Lausanne, Switzerland are quite a kick.
Werner and Henny Neuburger's children gave them an Apple computer for their 50th anniversary. They are now on-line and enjoying it at earthlink.
Margo Skinner, significant other Bob and friends spent some of their time share time in Palm Springs in December and again in February.

Hopefully all the family survived the Big Shaker up in Seattle.
Helene Strousse Ross delivered a lecture "the Jewish Experience in the Art of the 20th Century" that was very well attended,   about 130 people, about three times the usual number.

    SMALL WORLD DEPARTMENT
Gene Weinstein (Marilyn Back's other half) has a nephew who is good friends with one of the Langsdorfs in St. Louis. I guess it's not that far from Little Rock.

As luck would have it, Sam and Joan Rimmon cruised around the bottom of the world. We had the wonderful opportunity to meet Lisa Freudenthal Oppenheimer and her daughter Anita & Eduardo Storch, in Montevideo. And in Buenos Aires we had a too brief meeting with Joshua Mellars.

REFUAH SH'LEMAH A speedy and complete recovery.
