Zion Congregation Sunday School
closed a most successful year of religious study, with an enrollment of more
than fifty pupils in regular attendance, ten of whom formed last year’s
confirmation class.
The Hebrew class meets on Saturdays after divine services,
the combined classes on Sunday morning. A children’s Sunday service is also an
edifying feature, prayers being read in both English and Hebrew at the close of
the Sunday school exercises by one of the older pupils appointed for the time
being, the classes reading aloud the responses, singing prayers and hymns, and
one of the pupils is prepared and reads a “sermonette” on some given subject.
These services tend greatly to interest the children, while many of their
elders, attending same, notice their beneficial influence, and encourage
teachers and pupils by their presence. Rabbi Jacobson is most ably assisted by
Dr. Louis Abramson, Mr. S. H. Herold, Misses S. Newman, A. Gall, C. Florsheim
and Mrs. Gus Klein, the latter lady also presiding over the organ during the
services.
