The world bid its farewell to former President Ronald Reagan in a dramatically staged funeral in both Washington, D.C. and at the Reagan Library in Moorpark, California. Dignitaries from around the world came to pay their respects, including former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and Russian President Putin.

AMURT is a relief organization I have worked with for years and these programs are very established and have very low overhead. You may want to consider this option for gifts during the holiday season. You may even know others that might be interested. Dr. Bert Roberts, San Antonio, TX
2004 was the year of the natural disasters. Four hurricanes attacked the Atlantic coast and eastern Carribbean in rapid succession in September and October. A few family members wrote to tell of their experiences:
Here in Tampa, we completely missed Charley and Ivan, though at one point both of them were threatening to make a direct hit here. All Tampa was hit with was Frances, and not before it had been reduced from a Category 4 Hurricane to a mere Tropical Storm. Frances brought a bunch of rain, on top of a summer already blessed (?) with more than our fair share of rain… a bit of temporary coastal flooding due to storm surge… and some winds that gusted occasionally above 50 mph. Damage in Tampa was light, except for widespread power outages… which tells you more about the electric company’s poorly maintained distribution system than it does about the fierceness of the storm. Before the storm even got fully cranked up, we lost power at our house. It was not restored until six and a half days later! The house was dark and hot (that’s hell, isn’t it?), and we escaped to a hotel. Lest any reader think we live in some remote area out in the sticks, I hasten to assure you that’s not the case. We’re right here in the city, about 3-4 miles from downtown. I’m not upset with Mother Nature; I’m upset with the electric company. Steven Marx
Well, we survived Charley and Frances and now we are waiting for Ivan. Hey, but that's Florida. Thanks for thinking of us and a L'shana Tova to you and your family. Joe and Andrea Marx

The year ended with a bang, rather an undersea earthquake
followed by a Tsunami that caused many deaths and much destruction in eleven
countries in South Asia. The numbers
are too large to fathom. It is the world's most disastrous natural tragedy. The
world's outpouring of money and manpower to help in the relief efforts have been
outstanding. It will take a very long time to see those areas cleaned up and
rebuilt and life restored.
As of this writing we know of no one in the family who was
injured or even in the area, but if you know any personal stories, please write.
