Ira Ross has produced and narrated the fourth CD in his series "Opera for Everyone". The new CD is the magnificent "Madama Butterfly" by Puccini. The three previous CDs in the series are--"The Barber of Seville" by Rossini, "Carmen" by Bizet and "La Traviata" by Verdi.
Each CD begins with an introduction to the opera and to the overture. This is followed by music from the overture It then describes the action of the first major episode and suggests what to listen for in the related music. This is followed by the music. This sequence is repeated for each additional major episode in the opera: narration-music-etc.

He is now offering this program for free to teachers of music and opera. Below is a letter to be sent to music educators around the world:
Executive Director (Country) Association of Music Educators address--if possible
"Dear Sir/Madam:
My objective is to introduce students, worldwide, to opera---the wonderful combination of music, drama, dance and the visual arts---because I love opera.
I am Ira Ross, producer and narrator of the "Opera for Everyone" series of CDs
To achieve this I have donated the "Opera for Everyone" Project--computer downloadable 4 CDs and Teaching Manual (see attachment)----- to MENC ----the National Association of Music Educators---in the United States. The purpose is to have music educators, affiliated with schools or colleges, use these CDs and the Teaching Manual to enrich their students with the treasures of opera ------the magnificent vocal and orchestral music and the great variety of human emotions and acts of behavior. as expressed by the composers in these operas.
Now, I wish to donate these materials, all FREE, to music educators ---affiliated with schools and colleges in your country ----for the same purpose. I must emphasize that there are no hidden costs---this is all FREE.
The attachment will give you additional information about "Opera for Everyone" and an e-mail address to use for questions.
To inform all your members and to publicize this gift adequately, may I suggest multiple e-mails, publications, announcements, and all other means deemed appropriate.
Thank you for your cooperation and your help in introducing students, worldwide, to the magic of opera.
                                                             Sincerely, Ira Ross

Judy Mitchell's new novel, The Last Day of the War, (by the semi-nom de plume Judith Claire Mitchell), was released by Pantheon Books in 2004. For those who are interested, you can buy the book from any on-line bookseller (most offer it at a discount of 20% or more) or from your local bookstore. If you can't find it at your bookstore or in your library and are in the mood to do a good deed, you might want to request it or suggest they order it.
The book, which is about a Jewish girl who, at the end of World War I, becomes romantically  and politically involved with an Armenian-American doughboy in Paris, has received some nice pre-publication reviews. Publishers Weekly called it "smart" and "entertaining" and gave it a coveted starred review. Booklist said, "This eloquent first novel encompasses the full spectrum of joy and torment that is the human condition." The book was also included in Vogue's list of recommended summer reading.
Judy had a reading and book-signing during a 5-city tour in July with hubby Don Friedlich going along for the ride. [Great going, Judy!]

Cousin Kaysie Kent's husband Kevin O'Donnell is a producer and he recently produced a PBS series titled "Liberty's Kids."  It is a delightful history lesson for kids from 7 - 14, but certainly interesting for all ages. Aired first in 2002, the 40 episodes still appear on stations around the country. Check your local TV listings for air times. And the first 9 episodes are now available for purchase in VHS and DVD formats.
Liberty's Kids is a truly "revolutionary" children's animated series that introduces them to the exciting stories and people behind the birth of America. The program tells its historical vignettes through the eyes of two teenage apprentices, Sarah Phillips and James Hiller, and a French orphan, Henri, who work in Benjamin Franklin's print shop and discover first-hand and participate in the great adventures of the American Revolution.
Voices of the characters are portrayed by Walter Cronkite, Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, Arnold Schwarzenegger and many others.
If you haven't seen it, do. It is really worth the 30 minutes per episode. The children love it.
